Tracy Carmody Appointed to NYMHCA Board of Directors as Chair of Membership Committee

Baldwinsville, New York – Tracy Carmody, MS, LMHC, NCC, CASAC-MC, Executive Director and Owner of Paths to Recovery Mental Health Counseling, PLLC., located in Baldwinsville and Syracuse, New York with services throughout the New York State, has been named to the Board of Directors for the New York Mental Health Counselors Association (NYMHCA) serving as the Chair of the Membership Committee. Ms. Carmody’s term will run from 2023 – 2025. In this role, she will leverage her network, experience, and passion for moving the Mental Health Counseling profession forward in New York. “I am excited to take on this new role. It is my goal to enhance Mental Health services in the State and embracing a community over competition mindset, removing barriers for clients accessing care, while simultaneously advocating for improving compensation and insurance company reimbursements for practitioners,” says Carmody.

Ms. Carmody graduated from Clarkson University in 2004 and Syracuse University in 2007. She began working in the Mental Health industry in 2003 and in 2011, her private practice was established. Carmody is board-certified and specializes in the treatment of addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, trauma, and obsessive compulsive disorder, working with individuals to address addiction and behavioral health concerns. She is experienced in helping individuals with a wide range of issues, including bipolar, depression, anxiety, OCD, major life transitions, trauma, grief, relationship stress, and all areas of addiction, including support in coping with a loved one’s addiction. In addition, she provides drug and alcohol use assessment services, ranging from assessing a potential problem to the need for a higher level of care. Her treatment approaches are person-centered and eclectic, supporting all recovery options to focus on the clients’ unique needs. Addiction treatment includes support of traditional 12 step and non-traditional methods, including moderation management and harm reduction.

To further assist the community, in May of 2020, Paths to Recovery Mental Health Counseling, PLLC was formed, where the clinical team is highly trained to offer additional specialty services for a variety of needs including support for maternal mental health, eating disorders, and the LGBTQIA+ population.

NYMHCA is the only statewide professional membership association dedicated solely to representing mental health counselors licensed in New York State. Membership includes students in approved programs, limited permit holders, counselor educators and licensed and registered mental health counselors. To support counselors, NYMHCA leverages their robust community of members, focusing on providing awareness of current issues and approaches, providing education and professional development opportunities, networking, and advocating for mental health issues in the state and in support of the membership community.
