Hi Marc,

I wish you great success in leading Clarkson.  My dad and 2 brothers also went to Clarkson.  I really enjoyed my years there and as a member of Sigma Delta Fraternity – a wonderful house with great guys!  The Clarkson experience has been a great source of pride in my life’s journey.

Clarkson matters to me because it gave so many of us the tools and background to succeed in life.

If you look at the plaques at the base of the trees which line the drive up to the Hill dorms ( at least that is what we called them when my class set the plaque in place at the first tree on the top of the hill) it states;

I grow with the class of ’62 since we both found life on Clarkson ground.

As a 1954 graduate,Clarkson provided me with an education that gave me both a satisfying,as well as a financially successful career in the construction industry. It also continued the work ethic instilled in me by my parents. Clarkson was not my first choice as I was accepted at several more prestigious universities but financial concerns dictated otherwise. This however,has never caused any regrets in choosing Clarkson.

You and your family must be outstanding to have been chosen to lead our wonderful institution.

Clarkson was a game changer for Becky and me. It is a significant part of what defines us.

Your leadership, hopefully will carry us through the rest of our life.

We love Clarkson and everything it stands for. The Institution, the town and its people are the salt of the earth.

We expect breakthrough results and it is critical that you EXCEED our expectations. It is a must because the terrain is always very challenging to navigate. It is exciting to be a winner!!!..

Please call on us if we can ever be of assistance.

God Bless…..Bob and Becky Empie

WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU!

Welcome both of you to the Clarkson family. Clarkson is such a special and unique place; it offers world class engineering education in a beautiful and unassuming setting.  There is no university that would have been a better fit for me and I know almost every alum feels the same as I do.

I grew up homeless, neglected and in poverty, and faced a lack of family support in anything I’ve done in life. Coming to Clarkson, I immediately felt a sense of home, something I had never experienced before. The Clarkson community has been incredibly welcoming, and the first time you set foot on campus you feel it. I wish you both the best, and welcome home. 🙂

Clarkson matters to me because I am an alum!

I graduated class of 86 and Clarkson provided a great education. I give every year to the college (member of Anne Clarkson Society). I have two daughters of college age and I have been struck by the relative decline in the standing of Clarkson since my time there. It has a much lower ranking than it was. I think it is super important to improve its rankings. So many schools have added engineering to their curriculum. What is your plan to boost its standings?

PS I am friends with Trustee Dave Heacock (83?) and live in SF Bay area. I help with recruiting here.
