Dedicated during Homecoming Weekend in October 2010, the Alumni Gateway — located at the entrance to the Student Center from the Andrew S. Schuler Educational Resources Center — stands as a celebration of Clarkson’s proud alumni community.
The Clarkson Alumni Leadership Council championed the vision for the Alumni Gateway and led the fundraising campaign that brought it to life. Their efforts were strengthened by the generosity of numerous Woodstock and Golden Knight award recipients, as well as alumni and friends of the University. Among them, Golden Knight Award recipients James Coughlin ’53, Sandy Ginsberg ’54 and Garner McNett ’60 made lasting commitments through generous bequests, ensuring that the Gateway remains well-maintained and continually evolving.
The Alumni Gateway showcases the accomplishments of Clarkson graduates, underscoring the University’s impact and reputation across the globe. Complementing these achievements are artifacts from decades past, including event posters, vintage merchandise and a refurbished suit of armor, all of which connect today’s students to Clarkson’s traditions.
To ensure this space remains vibrant and relevant, the Alumni Gateway Maintenance Endowment, which became fully funded in 2024, supports its upkeep and upgrades. In spring 2025, four alumni came together to establish the Alumni Gateway Maintenance Committee. Their first initiative, driving a Gateway renovation project, is scheduled to begin in the spring 2026 semester.
Alumni from across the world are actively working to refresh the vision of the Gateway. With some members as near as Massena and others as far as Las Vegas and Italy, the committee envisions transforming and enhancing the Gateway into a more dynamic, interactive space.
While the endowment has provided for foundational upkeep, the committee is enhancing it to better reflect the achievements of Clarkson’s global alumni network and to create new opportunities for connection. Concepts under consideration include technology for virtual seminars and meetings, an online interface for alumni unable to visit campus, and interactive displays that invite students and visitors to engage more deeply with alumni stories.
The Alumni Gateway also features plaques honoring Clarkson’s distinguished Woodstock and Golden Knight award recipients, further inspiring students as they pass through the space. Furnished with seating and tables, the Gateway is a welcoming hub where students gather, surrounded by the accomplishments of alumni whose paths they aspire to follow.
The Alumni Gateway Maintenance Endowment ensures that the Alumni Gateway remains not only a tribute to the past, but also a bridge to the future — connecting generations of Clarkson alumni with one another and with the students who will carry on the Clarkson legacy.
